| LSF NIGHT CALVER 9921W
We own possession of Night Calver and share 50% of the semen rights with Ludvingson's. Semen is marketed through Ludvingsons. Night Calver's EPDs were recently fortified with 50k testing. At the April 13, 2013 Ludvingson Sale, a son of Night Calver topped the sale. Possession and a 50% semen interest sold for $75,000 to Lake View Catlle Co. and Pitch Fork-T Ranch. Following is Ludvingson's description of Night Calver.
|Night Calver is our "breakout" calving ease star sired by the breed leader,Messmer Packer S008 and is out of a Feddes Big Sky R9 daughter from the Della cow family. Night Calver sold as our lead off bull in our Spring 2011 Herdbuilder Sale to the up and coming Rhodes Red Angus operation in Wichita,Kansas. Once again Night Calver is a product of blending our two breed impact herd sires, Packer and Big Sky into a productive genetic package.
• Night Calver had one of the most balanced individual performances of any bull that we have ever produced. He recorded a 65 lb birth weight, 100 birth ratio, a 685 lb weaning weight, 110 weaning ratio, a 1222 lb yearling weight, 106 yearling ratio, a 5.56 IMF, 106 IMF ratio and a 13.02 inch ribeye, 106 ribeye ratio. His progeny ratios are following along in the same manner with a 69 lb average birth weight on 38 calves with a 97 birth ratio and a 630 lb average weaning weight on 24 calves with a 100 weaning ratio. Not bad for his first calf crop…
• The dam, LSF Della P4078 U8051 is equally impressive with her progeny averages of 69 lbs at birth with a 95 birth ratio, 653 lbs at weaning with a 99 weaning ratio, 1,012 lbs at yearling with a 101 yearling ratio and 10.78 inches for ultrasound ribeye with a 101 ribeye ratio. Big Sky will be considered one of the great maternal sires of the breed and historically will have as much influence as any great maternal sire before him.
• Night Calver is siring low birth calving ease cattle that have incredible look with deep dark red coat color and structural correctness. In our pens of herd bull prospects and replacement females, the Night Calver calves are rising to the top and are easily found from a phenotypic stand point. This five star calving ease bull ranks in the top 12%for calving ease direct and the top 2%for birthweight while being quite competitive for growth, milk, reproduction and carcass.
|SLGN ROCK STAR 225Z
|We own this bull with Solution Genetics of Iowa. "225Z is from a National Champion female and the powerful Rock Star. 225Z is a top herd bull prospect in our opinion. Fantastic performance numbers combined with more muscle than we have ever seen in the Red Angus herd. He may be the smoothest made son of Rock Star to date. The dam is a Two-Time National Champion Female and a cornerstone of our donor program. A sale highlight with pedigree, performance and phenotype. This guy is a stud in every aspect". Quote from Cassie Johnson.|
|HXC TOOL TIME 1102Y
|Tool Time was our choice at the Hueftle Sale in March 2012. We own full possession and 50% semen interest. Hueftle Cattle Company owns the other 50%. This P707 son has 7 epd traits in the top 8% and 9 in the top 27%.|
|His ratio of 113 for IMF and REA is superior as is his 16.9 REA. He is a moderate framed, dark red bull with a huge libido. The genetics and performance of this bull are an exciting combination. His first calves came in 2013 and he is certainly a calving ease bull, we like his calves a lot.|
|RED LAZY MC OPTIC 100A
|Optic 100A was purchased as the second high selling bull at the March 15, 2014 Lazy MC Bull Sale in Brooks, Alberta, Canada. Optic is a son of the Red Lazy MC Eye Spy 64Y bull that was the National Champion in Denver in 2012. Optic is backed by very strong cow families on both sides of his pedigree. His paternal great grand-dam, 47R, has sold embryos around the world. We will have him imported home in time to put out with the fall calving cows this winter. We think his calves will be special.|
|C-BAR-RJ GENESIS A31
|We purchased Genesis A31 as the high selling lot 1 bull at the C-Bar February 27, 2014 Bull Sale. The catalog quote for the bull was"One of the most exciting young herd sire prospects of the season, Genesis offers breed-muscle and performance with a flawless phenotype. He already was named the Reserve Junior Bull Calf Champion at the National Red Angus show in Ft. Worth. Due to his outstanding first progeny, Evolution is fast becoming the talk of the breed..." Genesis will stay on the show tour in 2014 and will come to the ranch in early 2015.|
We like to see strong cow families in our herd bulls. That is certainly the case with the dam and grand-dams of Genesis A31. And, he goes back on both sides of the pedigree to the famous Brown Abigrace cow that sold more that $1 million of prodigy. We are very excited about putting Genesis to work in the spring of 2015.
|Rhodes W384 Top Shelf
|Top Shelf is a young bull we raised. He is sired by Bieber Roosevelt W384 which is a bull that we believe will continue to receive lots of use and attention. On the dam side he is the last natural calf of our Basin Primrose 72T8 Donor cow. Again, another bull with very strong cow families in his pedigree. Top Shelf is dark red and very attractive phenotypically. And, his 50K enhanced epds are as good as you will find with 11 of 15 in the top 28%. Everything about this young bull points to him being a "cow-maker" deluxe. His first breeding assignment is in 2014 with our spring heifers.|
|Ort Lookout 6023
|Lookout 6023 was our choice from the A-1 program in Muenster, Texas. He is an ET sibling to the high selling bull at the A-1 Red Label Bull Sale in April of 2014. Lookout is out of Lazy MC Lookout 153X which is a 7/8 brother and a full brother in blood to the Eye Spy 64Y bull. Both bulls bring some solid black outcross genetics to the mix. We use Lookout 153X as an AI stud and in our ET program and we are pleased to have a son of his. Lookout is with a small group of Spring cows as his first breeding assignment.|
|A-1 Treason 6173
|Treason 6173 also came from the A-1 program. He is a son of Eye Spy 64Y. He is a full brother in blood to the $15,000 Red Lazy MC Spyder bull that sold to SEMEX in 2013. In addition Treason is a 3/4 brother to Optic 100A. We think this bull has what it takes. He is long, dark red bull with an extended front. With his phenotype and genetics he will be a valuable asset to our breeding operation.|
|BIEBER ROMERO X354
|This Romeo Grandson looks like his sire Romero 9136. With his sire, Future Direction, Basin Hobo 79E, and Logan 210 in his pedigree, he should produce some excellent females. He is wide and deep and a "go-getter" in the pasture. Romereo sustained a serious leg injury right after breeding season and had to be sacrificed.|
|Black Brylor Kodiak 204Y
Reg # 1647397
*SEMEN AVAILABLE IN 2014
Kodiak 204Y is a young black red carrier Canadian bull. We purchased an interest in this bull through the JKC dispersal and are now one of 10 owners in the bull. Kodiak was bred and raised at the Brylor Ranch near Pincher Creek, Alberta Canada and was originally syndicated in 2012. He is the son of the HF Kodiak 5R bull that sold for $150,000 in Denver to a group of owners including Eby Ranch in Emporia, Kansas, and is viewed by some as the best black bull in Canada right now.
204Y's dam is the breed legend Red Fine Line Lakme 70M cow that many have proclaimed to be the best ever New Trend 22 daughter. She has a very distinguished record as a donor cow including a daughter that sold in September of 3013 for $11,000. That is just one example of her many high selling progeny.
Kodiak 204Y's calves are just starting to be marketed to very enthusiastic buyers. He has two red sons that are being syndicated at this time and a 9 month old red heifer that sold for $6750 in October of 2013. We believe the "buzz" he has created to date will only get stronger as future progeny are evaluated by more breeders around the country.

*Semen available from ABS in 2014

ABS is marketing semen globally but Iron Ore semen will not be offered domestically by ABS until the spring of 2014. Iron Ore is a 100% Angus with no Red Angus lines in his pedigree. His lineage includes such Angus greats as New Design 036, Future Direction, Focus of ER, and Scotch Cap. Iron Ore's individual performance in a group of 177 contemporaries: 73 BW 9th; 1214#s for a 400 days ratio of 107th; 7th in Ribeye area at 16.2 SQ inches and 132% marbling ratio. Pfizer's 50K evaluation confirmed his EPDs including a top 35% for dry matter intake ( He eats less, even though he grows more).
|Messmer Packer S008
Packer puts together an excellent combination of Marbling and Muscle. We owned a small percentage of the bull. He was the number one semen seller at Genex in the past and has been among the top sellers for many years. He is very moderate and easy fleshing and has been a major influence in the red angus breed. We have a number of his daughters in the herd and he is the sire of our Night Calver bull. Packer is now deceased.
|URIELL RHODES PACMAN
This young Packer son was acquired from Uriell Red Angus. He has a very strong pedigree and a set of epds that are very solid and well balanced with 11 EPDs in the top 20%. He will be a moderate sized bull. His first calves came in the fall of 2013 and we are impressed.
